Beach Watchers Andria Wieland (in back) and Kim Secunda.

The WSU Beach Watchers program is starting to recruit for 2010. Please direct anyone who might be interested to us via any of the contact means given below. They can get an application either on our web site or by requesting one from our office.

The WSU Beach Watchers program is a watershed-to-marine stewardship education program offered by WSU Extension-San Juan County. It is modeled after the highly successful WSU Master Gardener Volunteer Program format.

Beach Watcher volunteers receive 100 hours of training from Washington State University in the physical, biological, and cultural aspects of marine steward ship. In return trained Beach Watchers provide 100 hours of volunteer service back to the community through education, research and stewardship.

Classes begin on March 25, 2010 and end May 13, 2010. There will be 15 classes total, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The classes will be held on Lopez, Orcas and San Juan with one class on Yellow Island and potentially, one on Shaw.
