Super Wide Groove is in the House.

On Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m., Super Wide Groove will perform at their 5th annual, “Get Funky Dance Party” at the Lopez Community Center. If you were among the dancers that joined them recently at the Rhythm and Waves Music Festival, you will be treated to their entire set and the promise of no cold wind blowing. Although you will want a cool breeze as it is an aerobic workout dancing to the band playing favorites from Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, KC and the Sunshine Band, Earth, Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye and more.

This Lopez grown, nine-piece group was founded by Bill Johnson in the spring of 2012. Bill wanted to put together a band that played music that he grew up with and is fun to dance to. The band is comprised of Nick Teague, Susie Teague, Mehgan Herold and Kenny Ferrugiaro on vocals and percussion, Colin Doherty on bass, Bill Johnson on guitar, Beth Geever on keyboard and Todd Goldsmith on drums and vocals. Also featuring Mark Doelman on saxophone.

As is not unusual on Lopez Island, band members are involved in many projects including farming and livestock, land management, volunteering and they also have day jobs. Their commitment to the community and to their fellow members of the band is a statement to the respectful, loving, talented people that make up Super Wide Groove.

Super Wide Groove rehearses for months in preparation for this show. And show it is! Funky period costumes, orchestrated dance routines, a light show and the joy of their playing for an audience bursts from the stage and spills unto the dance floor. It is a sing-along, dance-along, house party that unites everyone from all ages.

This has been a sold out show in the past, so get your tickets early. Also be prepared for very limited seating as the Community Center converts to one big dance floor.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for youth and are available at Paper Scissors on the Rock, Lopez Bookshop or online at www.lopezcenter.org or at the door.
