Local Writers Read returns to Lopez Bookshop

Leaves turning umber and a morning chill are sure signs of fall—and the return of Local Writers Read at Lopez Bookshop. The popular event resumes on Friday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m. at Lopez Bookshop. The season opener includes Lopez writer Kip Robinson Greenthal as well as Jeremiah O’Hagan from Conway, and Stephanie Lile from Gig Harbor. “We’re excited to host these readings again,” says bookshop co-owner Karen Barringer.

Many people on Lopez know Kip Robinson Greenthal as both a writer and a musician. She performs world folk music regularly with her husband, Stanley Greenthal, and writes both fiction and non-fiction. Kip founded and directed the award-winning Seattle Arts and Lectures’ Writers in the Schools program. She also was selected for the Jack Straw Writers Program and was awarded a Hedgebrook residency. Kip recently completed her first novel, Shoal Water, and is at work on a book of short stories.

Jeremiah O’Hagan is a writer, photographer and teacher. He served for two years as prose co-editor for SHARK REEF Literary Magazine and crafted compelling essays to introduce each issue. His love of photography and his skillful writing led to collaboration with photographer Harry VonStark on Floating Steel. The book documents in stunning black-and-white photographs by Harry and text by Jeremiah construction of a Bering Sea Fishing Trawler from start to finish at the Anacortes shipyard.

Stephanie (ST) Lile is a museum educator and curator, writer, and university lecturer. Currently she serves as the Director and Curator of the Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor. Most of her stories are based on collections that are reflective of bigger world issues. Her young adult novel, The Tail Gunner, was pieced together from her father’s diary and World War II photos and ephemera. Her children’s book and exhibit Ernest Oglby Pukweiler and the Fabulous-Miraculous Time Intrusionator was based on the idea that we all have a responsibility to be keepers of our past.

“This line-up of writers offers something for everyone,” says Lopez Bookshop co-owner Beth St. George. “This will be a great evening to kick off our new season of events.”
