Carver George David with his Sun Mask made especially for Carter Family Marionettes’ performance of “Raven & the Box of Daylight.”
Puppets on the Rock, Northwest Puppet Center’s Lopez Island Series, starts Saturday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Lopez Community Center. Chris and Stephen Carter perform this Northwest Coast tale about how the trickster brings light into the world. Featured is a beautiful cast of marionettes and masks by Nuu-chah-nulth artist George David and Lopez Island’s puppet master Stephen Carter. The proscenium of the stage is designed by Duane Pasco with painted Raven motifs and cedar planks to resemble the form of a longhouse. Barry Herem created the magical bent wood box in which the chief keeps all the light locked inside. Original soundtrack by the Greene and Hottowe families of the Makah Tribe. Advance tickets available at Blossom Organic Grocery and Islehaven Books. For more information go to http://www.lopezcenter.com
