Jessie Winchester Concert

Singers like Patti Page, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and Reba McIntyre have recorded his songs. People magazine compared his voice and style to James Taylor. Now Lopez Island has the chance to see one of the most prolific songwriters of the ‘70s when Jesse Winchester brings his voice, his guitar and his songwriting talents to Lopez. Zimbabwean Music at the Oddfellows Hall.

Community potluck at 6 p.m. Local musicians will perform marimba and special guest James Mujuru of Zimbabwe will perform traditional Mbira pieces.

Drawing for the Uncertain Artist

Caroline Buchanan will teach at the Senior Center. The class teaches hand and eye coordination with contour drawing, how to change three-dimensions to two and how to “see as an artist.” The class is from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a break for lunch. Book Club Darvill’s Book Club

will meet at 7 p.m. at Darvill’s. This month’s book is “The Reader” by Bernard Schlink (available at Darvill’s). All are welcome.

Babysitting clinic

There will be a babysitting clinic for girls and boys grades six and up from 10 to 3 p.m. at the Orcas Fire Hall meeting room. Margie Sabine will provide the basics of babysitting presented by the Red Cross. Each participant will receive a babysitting certificate and be placed on a community babysitters list if they wish. Participants are encouraged to bring ideas for games, recipes, and fun activities for babysitting. The cost is $20 and space is limited to 16. The clinic is sponsored by the Orcas Island Recreation Program. Call 376-5339 to register.
