On Tuesday, Oct. 21 winners of the Fire Prevention Week poster contest were honored by the Lopez Fire Department.

This year’s theme was “Preventing Home Fires.” Elementary students submitted their poster entries, and one student from each age group won. Fire Chief Jim Ghiglione and volunteer firefighter Jerry Hancock picked the winners up at school, took them for a ride in a shiny red fire engine, treated them to ice cream at the station, and presented each child with a certificate of achievement.
