Lopez

Looking for mentors

The Lopez Island Mentor Program seeks caring, responsible adults for a few children on Lopez. Help make a difference in a young child’s life. The Resource Center provides monthly support meetings for the mentors. Call Susie at the Lopez Family Resource Center at 468-4117.

After school soccer

Elementary students can sign up for a six-week soccer session. Youngsters (kindergarten through 2nd grade) meet once a week on Mondays starting Sept. 22. Older stuents (3rd-5th grade) meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Sept. 18. Call the Lopez Island Family Resource Center at 468-4117 for more details. Pre-registration required. Parent helpers are needed!

Tennis anyone?

After School Tennis Program for 6- to 10-year-olds starts next week. There will be seven sessions held on Wednesdays and Fridays starting Sept. 24. The instructor will combine fun activities with sound fundamentals. Modified larger balls help get the kids off to a fast start. Fee is $40, scholarships available for those in financial need. Call the Lopez Island Family Resource Center at 468-4117 for more details. Pre-registration required.

Looking for volunteers

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, United Way of San Juan County will celebrate its 3rd annual Day of Caring and encourages community members to be part of this important countywide event. They are looking for volunteers to help us on Lopez Island. This year they have picked Landscaping at Lopez Housing Options (LOHO) as the project. They will meet at LOHO at 9 a.m. with gloves and gardening tools and will work until 1 p.m. Please call the Lopez Island Family Resource Center to sign up for this important event 360-468-4117.

Meals at Lopez School –they’re back!

The Meals at Lopez School are back, and the first one of the season is on Sept. 25, 5:15 to 7 p.m. Enjoy a delicious meal with local products, all at an affordable price. Everyone is welcome.

Potluck for Jerry and Sharon Dupuis

Friends of Jerry and Sharon Dupuis are hosting a potluck dinner to celebrate their time on Lopez and their new journey. Saturday, Sept. 27, Lopez Golf Club, 3-7 p.m. The community is welcome!

ARC meeting

“Dealing with Difficult People” workshop

The two-hour workshop “Dealing with Difficult People” is being offered by Carnachan Asscociates in partnership with the SJI Chamber of Commerce and the San Juan County Economic Development Council. The FREE workshop is being offered twice: Sept. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The workshop will be held in the Community room at Skagit Valley College.
