Residents, policy makers and transportation providers are invited to explore economically and environmentally sustainable multi-modal transportation solutions for San Juan County at the Transportation Summit to be held September 17, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.

Registration is free, but a $5 fee will be charged at the door for lunch. Registrations are now being accepted by e-mailing a registration form (obtained at www.islandway.org/transummit/attendees.htm) to tsregister@islandway.org.

Six presentations and “world café” small group discussions leading to action plans will take place during the day, followed by an end-of-the-day conversation with the State Transportation Commission regarding long-term ferry funding and customer surveys.

In addition, several exhibitors will show off their transportation options and ideas at the summit, including a selection of hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, electric scooters and electric bikes, bio-fuels, and other alternative ideas for local transportation solutions.

Sponsoring organizations include the San Juan County Economic Development Council, San Juan Island Library, Port of Friday Harbor, San Juan County Public Works, Town of Friday Harbor, San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau, and the Cascadia Institute.

Volunteers are needed for the day of the event. For more information see www.islandway.org/transummit, send e-mail to transummit@islandway.org, or call Bill Watson, San Juan County Economic Development Council, 378-2906.
